Tips & Advice
Good oral hygiene not only makes your teeth and gums feel fantastic it also provides the basic foundation for lifelong dental health. As well as regularly scheduled dental appointments, follow our Essential Care Dental advice for healthy teeth and gums.
Regular flossing with help fight bad breath
Brushing alone is not adequate to remove plaque and food debris trapped between teeth. Bacteria accumulating here omit sulphur-containing waste products which is responsible for bad breath. Effective removal of this plaque and food build-up will therefore help to eliminate this. It will also help to reduce the risk of dental decay and gum disease (also known as periodontitis).
Always drink water after fruit juice, sports drinks and milk
By drinking water after fruit juice, sports drink and milk and before you wash your teeth, you can prevent acid wear. Whilst juices such as orange juice have a pH level higher than 5.5, fizzy drinks contain carbonic acid, both erode the enamel on your teeth. Milk contains sugar (lactose), so it’s important for milk to be drunk at meal times and prior to the evening teeth cleaning.
Do you have sensitive teeth? Don’t ignore it – seek advice
Do you feel pain when consuming cold drinks, sugary foods or sour foods or when your teeth are exposed to air flow or contact with objects such as your toothbrush? You may have sensitive teeth. There are many reasons why your teeth may be sensitive, and the simple use of toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth may only be masking a more serious dental problem. A simple consultation with your Essential Care Dental dentist will help you to best manage any sensitive teeth.

There are a number of reasons why bleeding gums occur. The most common is plaque accumulates around the teeth and needs to be removed by brushing and flossing. If you experience continued bleeding, inflamed or sore gums seek the advice of your Essential Care Dental Dentist.
