General & Preventative Dentistry
At Essential Care Dental our many years of experience has shown time and time again that preventative dental care will almost always reduce the need for emergency and restorative dental care. By ensuring that a personalised dental care plan is in place for our patients which includes regular check-ups, we can ensure that you achieve lasting dental health. Upon your first visit to Essential Care Dental we will always use our specialised internal digital camera and diagnostic x-ray machine to assess the health and wellbeing of you, your teeth and your gums. We then recommend thorough cleaning of the teeth and the examination your entire mouth for any sign of decay, general wear and gum diseases which are common. This may include restoring fillings or recommending new ones. At the completion of your visit we schedule a follow up visit. If we are satisfied with the condition of your gums and teeth, we recommend a six-monthly check-up; if not we schedule an appointment to consider further treatment options.
Emergency, Restorative & Cosmetic Dentistry
Your smile brightens up your face and beautiful teeth are an important part of this. Modern dentistry means you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped, misshapen teeth, or gaps between your teeth. We all know great teeth boost confidence and self-esteem. Talk to your Essential Care Dental Dentist about the options most suitable for you, your expectations, and the applicable dental fees. We have listed the most common dental procedures below.
Crown or Bridge
A crown or bridge is used to restore teeth when there has been extensive tooth damage or loss. A porcelain dental crown is designed to fit over the damaged tooth and restore its appearance, strength and function. Crowns are applied to teeth which may have broken, be worn excessively or decayed or had root canal treatment. A bridge is a dental technique used to replace a lost tooth.
A veneer is attached to the front surface of a tooth to restore or improve its appearance. Common reasons for your dentist recommending veneers include filling chipped teeth, straightening your smile or to cover stained or discoloured teeth. They are longer lasting than white fillings as they are made of porcelain.
Dental implants are used when it is deemed necessary to replace the root of the tooth with an artificial one. They can be used to replace single or multiple teeth. The advantage is they look and feel like your natural teeth. You can enjoy regular meals and can clean and floss your new teeth.
At Essential Care Dental, we make every effort to preserve or restore your existing teeth. In some cases, full or partial dentures are a viable option to replace lost or missing teeth and still achieve an aesthetically pleasing smile. Well fitting dentures improve chewing ability and speech but also provide support for facial muscles.
Root Canal Treatment
You can save a severely infected tooth from extraction by treating the problem with a root canal. Your tooth’s root canal can easily become infected or worse still, become diseased from tooth decay, fracturing or injury to the tooth. The process of root canal treatment is to remove the infected nerve and clean the canal before sterilising and sealing the area to protect it from further infection or worse still, the formation of an abscess which can be extremely painful.
Wisdom teeth are almost always the last teeth to grow through the gums. It is extremely common for most mouths to be unable to accommodate these teeth forcing them to become trapped in the gums or the jawbone. When this happens, the roots tend to grow in abnormal directions causing major problems. If you experience pain, swelling or inflammation on an ongoing basis near the back of your mouth where your wisdom teeth are, it could be an indication that an infection may be present. If infection is present then it is always preferable to have the wisdom teeth removed to avoid any further pain or suffering.
One solution for discoloured teeth is to undergo a professional teeth whitening procedure. Your Essential Care Dentist can advise you on the results which will be achieved. In some cases stains cannot be removed and veneers will achieve the best result. To read commonly asked questions about teeth whitening visit our FAQs.
